Jacqueline Cox, LGSW, C-AAIS
About Me
I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, trauma, neurodivergence, and other concerns impacting their well-being. I’m passionate about supporting LGBTQ+ individuals as they explore identity, relationships, and belonging. I am deeply committed to providing compassionate, trauma-informed, evidence-based care that supports healing and resilience.
Many individuals come to therapy to process their experiences, strengthen their sense of self, improve their relationships, and find support during periods of change or transition. I approach this work with care and understanding, paying close attention to how past experiences and cultural identity shape each person’s life. I work collaboratively to support expression, insight, and personal growth, while striving to create a nonjudgmental, affirming space where you feel safe, respected, and heard throughout the therapeutic process.
My goal is to help you make sense of your story, build on your strengths, and move through life with more presence, ease, and intention.
My Approach
I draw from narrative therapy to help clients reframe their experiences and reclaim authorship of their lives, and from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to build practical skills for managing difficult thoughts and emotions. I also incorporate mindfulness-based interventions, both in session and as tools you can use on your own, to support present-moment awareness and emotional regulation. When appropriate and aligned with your goals, I integrate animal-assisted and nature-based approaches, informed by my training in hospital-based animal-assisted intervention and healing-focused programming.
Professional Background & Experience
I am a Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW) with a Master of Social Work degree and a graduate certificate in Human-Animal-Environment Interactions from the University of Denver. I am also a Certified Animal-Assisted Intervention Specialist (C-AAIS).
I’ve provided crisis intervention and emotional support to LGBTQ+ youth through The Trevor Project, where I completed advanced training in suicide prevention and LGBTQ+ cultural competency. At the International Rescue Committee, I supported refugees resettling in the U.S., helping individuals and families navigate complex systems while honoring their cultural identities and strengths. I’ve also supported a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program and contributed to the Hawai’i Department of Health’s Sexual & Gender Minority Workgroup Data to Action initiative.
Outside of work, I find peace (and thrills!) in the great outdoors, whether hiking, camping, or skiing. My senior dog, Poppyseed, often accompanies me on these adventures. I also enjoy yoga, attending concerts, and am an avid reader and podcast listener.
